Narrative

It is all about the story we tell ourselves!

It is as simple as that. We are exactly the story we tell ourselves (and the world). Every single moment is a story. And this one story can have a million versions. The exact same story, but the way each one of us tells this story varies so much. The first time I realized this was when a person I know was narrating a story of her life. I was so surprised because the same story (situation), I would have narrated in a totally different way. That's when it hit me that I can tell myself whatever I want to hear. I am not saying we have to lie to ourselves. I am also not saying that we start living in an illusion. But think about it - there is always a positive spin to every story. Every single story can be narrated in exactly the way we want it. So if we try to narrate every story of our lives with a positive spin, our attitude towards everything can change and eventually the situation and our life changes.

Let us take examples of extreme situations like when we are in pain - physical or mental - to spin the narrative, we can narrate a story that the particular pain has come to our lives as a guest and is leaving, and as a result we embrace the pain - life becomes so much easier and simpler. The above story is just one narrative I am giving, but I am sure that every situation has a narrative that can be spinned around. It is just a matter of choosing the narrative.

Let us choose wisely about what kind of narrative we tell ourselves, because that literally defines our life.
